The latest NBCC Blog

The NBCC has strong links into education and as well as frequently engaging with Cadet Programmes in order to work with tomorrow’s potential leaders, in both Policing and Business, we are always happy to assist those in any stage of education who wish to learn more about the unique and ground-breaking work we do.

The NBCC hosted a young student to act as a guest writer for this blog and who worked with us for a day prior to our recent anniversary event at New Scotland Yard. Aboluwarin Falase is in Year 11, studying for GCSEs, and is keenly interested in writing, sports and psychology. He has been writing blogs for over a year, with career aspirations is to be a journalist or sports analyst.
On the 23rd of October 2018 the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) celebrated its 1st anniversary. It was a great event with an abundance of partners from across the United Kingdom coming to New Scotland Yard to celebrate this achievement.
The NBCC was created following Home Office Police Transformation Funding and is currently led by Sir Craig Mackey, who is retiring in December and will be succeeded by Ian Dyson, the Commissioner of The City of London Police. Sir Craig Mackey joined the police in 1984, commencing his service with Wiltshire Constabulary. He joined the police because he wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. As the NPCC portfolio holder for Business Crime and the Security Industry he has worked tirelessly to assist in the development and promotion of the NBCC. Sir Craig has dedicated time to listen to the concerns of the business community and been working towards a national joint up approach to tackling the increase in violence and abuse suffered towards our business community.
The NBCC goals over the next few years include, to keep improving partnerships with businesses all over the country and to decrease business crime in rural and urban areas. Positive feedback independently evaluating the first year’s accomplishments was numerous. “The NBCC is a key partner in linking in messaging to help prevent crimes such as fraud and terrorism”, according to Marriot Hotel Group representative Steve Wilkinson.  Furthermore, the NBCC supports major fast food restaurants, such as McDonalds to prevent crimes against them by providing “critical guidance for staff against violent customers. They also give us the best advice and support”, according to Security Lead, Paul Donlevey.
The NBCC is striving to protect businesses from violent crimes, which include knife violence, which has risen over the last decade. The NBCC also have relations with countries across the globe including, Norway, Australia, South Korea and The United States of America, creating a conduit of prevention and intelligence to try to stop such crimes.
