The year ahead with NBCC Lead Supt. Lisa Maslen
It is hard to believe that it is already February! The year has got off to a flying start with the Safer Town Centres conference in Liverpool on January 9th as well as the usual catch ups with BCRPs, retailers and two introductions to tech providers. I also managed to get away from a train and laptop to help Surrey Police with a tool marking event on Jan 23rd. I was also invited to partake in the Institute of Couriers Round Table and Off The Cuths first live stream.
Podcasts are really important in this space and offer an opportunity to get the word out about Tackling Retail Crime Together and I am glad to be invited to take part in Smoke Screens podcast in February, these guys do great work with their Fight Back Against Retail Crime events across the country.
This year the NBCC will do something a little different and have a theme each month to help raise awareness and keep us focussed, February’s theme is Cybercrime and Fraud Awareness, particularly topical given the recent launch of Report Fraud by City of London Police.
Throughout the year the NBCC team will be popping up at everything from the Atlas Conference for policing’s designing out crime officers, Opals SOAC conference, taking part in BCRP week from March 16 and all the usual annual events as well as supporting forces with their retail crime events.
Speaking of the NBCC team, I had the privilege of interviewing some amazing candidates for the Sergeants positions before Christmas and had the pleasure of selecting two, if only I could have taken more, and hope they will be joining Titus and I very soon. More on that as we have dates to start.
I look forward to seeing many of you on the road and in the year ahead, I’m sure you look forward to meeting the rest of the team and not just listening to my dulcet tones going forward.
