On the road with the NBCC Team in February 2026

With the New Year now firmly behind us we are looking forward to the challenges the year ahead will present in supporting both UK Businesses and Police.

At the end of January Lisa Maslen and Titus Halliwell headed to Liverpool for Tackling Retail Crime Together Steering Group to learn and help drive the various activity which will help turn the national strategy from being words on a page to a living document delivering outcomes to both the retail industry and UK Policing to help reduce and combat the incidents of retail crime and harm. The ‘What Works’ Strand initial push is focused on Criminal Behaviour Orders, Getting the best from Retail Crime Platforms and how Security Marking is used in the prevention and recovery of stolen goods. A couple of days later Lisa joined Fiona Cuthbertson to take part in a live edition of her podcast ‘Off the Cuth’ during which they discussed the high price of retail crime. In mid-February, Lisa and Titus, had the opportunity to brief Matt Vickers MP the Shadow Policing Minister about the challenges being faced by Retailers and UK Policing and how collaboration between the two is leading to positive outcomes which is seeing those prolific offenders being brought to justice.

Lisa hosted away day with Titus and the two new Sergeants who will hopefully joining the Team in the next couple of months to discuss and agree the focus going forward and what we aim to deliver based around engagement and support for the retail industry and policing but also see a small pivot towards tackling second hand markets and tool theft.

During the last week in February, Lisa visited the Cheltenham Business Improvement District to see how they are working with their local businesses in a highly engaged and supportive way to tackle retail crime and harm. This was followed the next day when she had the opportunity to speak at the Crime Prevention Police Initiatives, Atlas Conference which brings together UK Policing’s Designing Out Crime Prevention Officers as part of their continuing professional development. The theme of her presentation was the importance of working with retailers to ensure that when making recommendations during the initial design or retrofit of retail premises they work with retailers to ensure that any recommendations don’t impact on the customers journey.

Finally, on the penultimate day of Titus attended the SalesForce Innovation Day to see how technology is being used to support UK Policing communicate, prevent and detect crime.
