National Association of Business Crime Partnerships NABCP

The NABCP is the national representative body for BCRPs across the UK.

There are several hundred Business Crime Reduction Partnerships in the UK, many of which are incorporated within local Business Improvement Districts, while others are independent, not for profit community organisations.

They range in size from schemes operating in small towns, to city-wide complex operations with several staff and hundreds of members, as well as county-wide BCRPs covering multiple towns and cities. BCRPs aim to deliver a holistic approach to crime prevention, engaging relevant agencies and stakeholders to fully address all local issues affecting the business and wider community.

The National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP) is a membership body representing BCRPs at a national level. It seeks to promote the concept of BCRPs to local and national government and to increase the collective effectiveness of BCRPs across the country by lobbying for greater resources and influence.

It is also a repository of information offering members a range of resources on current legislation, best practice, document templates, accreditation and news about innovative ideas being employed by its members.

BCRPs are kept well informed through regular NABCP communications, conferences and meetings, including the monthly Campfire Chat -  an online meeting with guest speakers educating BCRP staff on current trends and community safety objectives, so this information can be cascaded via the vast BCRP Membership network of their members -  the many hundreds of thousands of people working in businesses in our towns and cities across the UK.

NABCP encourages BCRPs to lead local projects aimed at addressing National safety priorities, including preventing violence against women and girls, counter terrorism, safe spaces, and more, by sharing project plans, best practice, contacts and enabling BCRP staff to network and communicate directly to develop, learn and grow.

Training and development is a key focus – the NABCP offer one-to-one coaching and mentoring for new BCRP managers, understanding the need for a localised approach to address local issues, whist maintaining the overarching model of BCRP structure, rules, protocols, aims and objectives.

The NABCP can assist with setting up new BCRPs and will provide templates of all necessary BCRP documentation, including BCRP constitutional policies, data protection documentation, offender management warning letters, banning orders and victim impact statements, BCRP policies, rules and protocols, membership agreements, KPIs, and more.

Working with a range of industry specific suppliers, NABCP strive to raise standards across all areas of the industry, for example, negotiating with insurers to broker bespoke, specialist insurance for BCRP work, providing assurance that the cover is fit for purpose, and providing financial savings on the policy too.

The Board of Management is democratically comprised of BCRP Manager leads from each Regional Group across the UK, contributing a vast wealth of experience and working knowledge to advocate for the needs of BCRPs nationally. The Board also includes representatives from major retailers, police and senior industry experts from both day and night time economies to ensure the needs of stakeholders are met too.

The NABCP is the assessing organisation for the BCRP National Standards Accreditation, the gold standard for Business Crime Reduction Partnership work.

Achieving the standard elevates BCRPs above and beyond other crime prevention and data sharing initiatives, by demonstrating effectiveness in delivering wider benefits to the local business community, partnership working, and more, whilst providing assurance of compliance, effectiveness and return on investment.

Overall, the NABCP aims to promote assurance in the BCRP model, encourage investment in local schemes, providing assurance of compliant data sharing, lobbying for greater recognition of business crime, and working with all parties to drive excellence within the industry.

Working closely with police forces, councils and other key local agencies, BCRPs serve to make their local areas safer places to live, work and visit and, as funding for statutory services gets tighter, BCRPs have gained in influence and importance.
